Dear Everett High School Community,
I am reaching out to thank everyone for doing their part in following procedures and ensuring our safety during a troubling and stressful situation that occurred this afternoon at Everett High.
Due to an external threat we received via phone, our Student Resource Officers recommended we go into a shelter in place and, eventually, a lockdown. This lasted for approximately one hour and coincided with our dismissal. We began a “controlled dismissal” at 3:10 p.m., with the assistance of the Everett Police Department.
We successfully followed all EHS guidelines and protocols. I commend our staff for calmly and efficiently communicating information to students and carrying out their responsibilities. I am equally grateful to our Student Resource Officers, the Everett Police Department, and Chief Steve Mazzie for quickly responding to EHS, assessing the situation, and completing a thorough search of the building. No credible threat was discovered.
The origin of this threat is being investigated by the EPD.
I understand that this is a stressful situation. Information travels fast via multiple platforms, and not all of it is accurate. In instances like this, the best source of information is the EPS website, which allows us to make quick and timely updates.
Again, thank you for your responsiveness today. We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow morning.
